The 2021 General Assembly kicks off today and so does action on one of our priority bills: Delegate Carr’s HB 1902 which would ban single use foam and takeout containers will be heard in the House Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee’s first meeting of the 2021 session.

A lot of pollution that threatens Virginia's wildlife comes from things we've known for decades we shouldn't be using--stuff like polystyrene or what is commonly referred to as styrofoam. This pollution ends up in our rivers, streams and oceans where it threatens and kills wildlife. This particular type of plastic never biodegrades which means it will outlive each and every one of us and for generations to come.

We don’t need single-use polystyrene cups and containers – there are plenty of recyclable, compostable, and, better yet, reusable alternatives available.

The Virginia General Assembly has the opportunity to take action on this issue starting today. Let the Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee know where you stand.

Sign up to testify and/or leave comments for the committee!

You can sign to speak and leave comments on the committee’s website.  Follow the link and you will see the January 13th agenda. Under feedback is a link to sign up to speak and/or leave comments. We suggest if you want to speak, you should also submit those comments as meetings will be kept to a limited time and not everyone may be able to speak that signs up.
