Environmental Action Series: Social Media

Our General Assembly is moving forward on the statewide ban on polystyrene foam, HB 1902, and the ban on the intentional release of balloons, HB 2159. As the bills move forward, we’re going to continue our grassroots effort to support the bill during Week 4 of the General Assembly Action Series!

We’re confident that we can push this legislation over the finish line, but we need to show our legislators the broad public support behind reducing plastic pollution. This week we will be posting on social media to urge our state senators to vote yes on the two bills.

Social media is a primary way to communicate with our decision makers. Since the General Assembly is virtual, and our legislators are working in a primarily virtual setting, social media is a strong grassroots tool we can use to advocate for wildlife over waste.

Can you take action by asking your state senator on social media to vote yes on HB 1902 and HB 2159? Each day, we’ll be posting each day this week, so you can use the social media toolkit below:

Wildlife Over Waste Social Media Toolkit

Pick three days this week to post on social media urging your state senator to put wildlife over waste! Ideally, post to both Twitter and Facebook, or any of your other favorite social media platforms – the more posts, the bigger impact we can make. You can absolutely make these posts your own, and you can also ask your friends and family to join the week of action!

Friday-Sunday:

  • “Nothing we use for 5 minutes should pollute our environment for hundreds of years. @[your state senator] please vote yes on HB 1902! #foamfree”

Monday-Tuesday:

  • “Balloons are one of the most common types of litter found on our beaches and in our waterways. Let’s pu #WildlifeOverWaste. @[your state senator] please vote yes on HB 2159!”

Wednesday-Thursday:
