Eastern Coastal Mayors and Elected Leaders Oppose Offshore Drilling, Urge Greater Protection of Our Oceans

Today, dozens of local elected leaders from up and down the East Coast sent the Trump administration and Congress a letter urging them to protect the Atlantic Ocean  and our coasts from threats including offshore drilling. The Trump Administration recently proposed both opening U.S. coastal waters to drilling and rolling back rules that prevent oil spills.

Virginia Could Gain Billions For Clean Energy By Joining Bipartisan Regional Climate Program

Today, Environment Virginia showcased its new report outlining the benefits that Virginia could reap by joining the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), the nation’s most effective regional climate and clean energy program. The report, Cooler Together: The Benefits of Cooperative Action Against Global Warming in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Beyond, concludes that Virginia could gain as much as $2.8 billion in revenue if it formally joins the region’s cooperative climate action program -- and more than $2 billion of that revenue could be used to help Virginia homeowners and businesses finance clean energy and energy efficiency projects by 2030.

With electric vehicles (EVs) hitting U.S. streets in record numbers, a new study by Environment America Research & Policy Center, PennEnvironment Research and Policy Center and Frontier Group highlights best practices to help local officials make their cities as EV-friendly as possible. The new report, “Plugging In: Readying America’s Cities for the Arrival of Electric Vehicles,” includes local and state data about the projected number of electric cars expected on the road in coming years, and how cities can accommodate these new EVs with enough places to park and recharge.
